How to Pay for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Midjourney from Lebanon
ChatGPT, Claude and Google's Gemini plans are officially available in Lebanon, so the only real obstacle is payment. The most reliable route is a fresh-dollar debit or credit card from a Lebanese bank, enabled for online and international use; subscribing inside the iPhone app through Apple is a second route, and it still needs a card Apple accepts. Prepaid and wallet cards can work but are the most likely to be declined on recurring billing.

Methods change. Last checked 2026-10-29. Every method below links to its source. Banks, wallets and AI companies change their rules often, so test with a monthly plan before you commit to a yearly one.
From Lebanon, the problem is not access. It is which card the merchant will accept, every month, without failing. Here is what is verified, what is only reported, and what does not work.
Can you subscribe to ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini from Lebanon?
Yes. Lebanon is on the official availability lists of all three. OpenAI lists Lebanon among ChatGPT supported countries. Anthropic lists Lebanon on its supported countries and regions page, which covers both Claude.ai and the API. Google lists Lebanon under both Google AI Plus and Google AI Pro and Ultra on its Gemini plans page.
Midjourney bills through Stripe and, per its accepted payment methods page, its billing team does not set up alternatives except for bulk company purchases. So for Midjourney, a card that passes Stripe checkout is the whole game.
You do not need a VPN or a foreign address. You need a card that works.
What payment methods work from Lebanon?
Five routes, not equal.
1. A fresh-dollar debit or credit card from a Lebanese bank. The US government's Lebanon eCommerce guide (published 2026-02-23) notes that online payments in Lebanon are often made with "fresh dollar" debit and credit cards linked to foreign currency accounts. This is the most direct route. Example: Byblos Bank's Visa Fresh Web Card is a USD debit card designed exclusively for online use, which the bank describes as "ideal for online purchases and subscriptions", with a USD 10 annual fee and daily limits from USD 100 to 1,000. Ask your own bank for a fresh-dollar card enabled for online and international payments.
2. A prepaid reloadable card. OMT offers a Visa prepaid dual-currency card issued by BLOM Bank. OMT states the fresh USD balance can be used for purchases online or abroad, and the card reloads at OMT locations or BLOM ATMs. The catch: prepaid cards are the type most often rejected by subscription checkouts. Users on the OpenAI community forum report repeated declines with prepaid and gift cards. That is user reporting, not official policy, but the pattern is consistent.
3. A wallet's virtual card. Whish offers a Whish Digital Visa Card, free to activate, which it says allows "secure online purchases without SMS or cross-border transaction fees". Credit Libanais launched Wink Pay in May 2024 with instant Visa prepaid virtual cards for online and international payments. We found no source confirming that either card is accepted specifically by OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or Midjourney. Treat them as worth a test, not a guarantee.
4. App store billing. You can subscribe inside the ChatGPT iOS app and the Claude iOS app, and Apple handles the charge. It does not remove the card problem: in Lebanon, Apple accepts "most credit and debit cards" for Apple Accounts. What changes is the merchant: Apple charges you, and you cancel through Apple.
5. Google Pay. Google Pay launched in Lebanon on 25 June 2025 and works in stores, in apps and on the web. Visa named BLOM and BLF Visa cardholders as the first able to add cards, and Whish announced its Visa card can be added to Google Wallet. The card underneath still has to be accepted.
What does not work?
Wise, for Lebanon residents. Lebanon is not on the list of countries where you can hold money with Wise, and a Currency Shop guide (updated February 2025) states the Wise card is not available to residents of Lebanon. Local-currency or blocked-dollar accounts. Expect declines. Ask the bank plainly: "Can this card pay a recurring USD subscription to a foreign merchant?"
How do the methods compare?
| Method | Verified example (source) | Online use per issuer | Recurring billing risk | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fresh-dollar bank debit or credit card | Byblos Visa Fresh Web Card | Yes, built for online and subscriptions | Lowest, if the account is funded | Everyone with a fresh USD account |
| Prepaid reloadable card | OMT Visa card by BLOM | Yes | High: prepaid cards are often declined, and renewals fail on low balance | Testing, one-off purchases |
| Wallet virtual card | Whish, Wink Pay | Yes | Unverified for AI merchants | People without a bank account |
| App store billing (iPhone) | ChatGPT, Claude | Needs a card Apple accepts | Same as the card behind it | Keeping all subscriptions in one place |
| Google Pay | Yes, in apps and on the web | Same as the card behind it | Android users with a supported bank | |
| Wise | Wise help | Not available to Lebanon residents | n/a | Not a route from Lebanon |
How do you pay for each AI tool?
| Tool | Officially available in Lebanon | Ways to pay |
|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT (OpenAI) | Yes (OpenAI) | Card on chatgpt.com, or Apple billing in the iOS app |
| Claude (Anthropic) | Yes (Anthropic) | Card on claude.ai, or Apple billing in the iOS app |
| Gemini (Google AI Plus, Pro, Ultra) | Yes (Google) | Through your Google account, with a card or Google Pay |
| Midjourney | Billing via Stripe (Midjourney) | Card at Stripe checkout only |
One warning from OpenAI's own help center: if you subscribe on iOS and on the web, you can be billed twice. Pick one channel per tool.
Why does my Lebanese card keep getting declined?
Run this checklist before you call the bank:
- Card type. Prepaid and gift cards fail most. Use a debit or credit card on a fresh USD account.
- Online and international use. Often switched off by default. Enable both in your banking app.
- 3D Secure. Make sure your bank sends you the verification code or in-app approval for online payments.
- Balance at renewal. A subscription charges again next month. If the card is empty that day, the plan pauses.
- Billing details. Enter your name and address exactly as the bank has them.
Still refused? Switch route, for example to app store billing, instead of retrying the same card.
Which AI tools work well in Arabic?
- ChatGPT: Arabic is on OpenAI's list of supported interface languages, so the app itself can run in Arabic.
- Claude: Anthropic publishes multilingual benchmark scores relative to English. On a professionally translated MMLU test, Arabic scores 97.2% of English for Claude Sonnet 4.5 and 92.5% for Claude Haiku 4.5.
- Gemini: Google made Gemini Advanced and the Gemini mobile app available in Arabic on 29 May 2024.
- Midjourney: We found no official statement on Arabic prompt support. Write image prompts in English.
Benchmarks are not your use case: test each tool with your own Lebanese-dialect and Modern Standard Arabic prompts before paying for a year. To learn these tools properly, start at Learn AI in Lebanon; for the local scene, see AI in Lebanon; to roll them out across a team, see AI strategy.
